Foundation of Kyokushin-Budokai:
In
1980, sad by all politics and the so-called Budoka who don’t or did
not achieve anything, he founded the Kyokushin Budokai after an
invitation by the Dutch Navy and their coach Shihan Jan de Bruin 8th
Dan; and the first Budokai dojo of two of his pupils, Shihan Tom Eikmans 8th Dan and Shihan Frans van Wijngaarden 8th Dan. The
Kyokushin-Budokai was born. The Budokai has been busy for 25 years
and has developed to a solid group. Each associated dojo is his own
boss and pays only a small onetime amount for a lifetime membership
and a minor contribution each year. Everyone can propose an issue,
and it is not a federation with a board. Bluming is the Kaicho and
determines what will happen, but in cooperation with a committee
that also gives examinations for 1st to 4th Dan grades. For higher
Dan grades people can be nominated, but Kaicho decides, and in
difficult cases he consults Kenji Kurosaki, 10th Dan and honorary
president. In cooperation with Shihandai Dave Jonkers 8th Dan, the
Kyokushin Budokai later developed into the International Budokaikan.
De Budokai style is very effective and realistic, both in matches as
for self-defence: the no-nonsense style. In January 1989, Bluming
was promoted to 9th Dan from Japan. In November 1993, Akira Maeda
8th Dan Budokai came to his hometown De Bilt in The Netherlands and
told him that Mas Oyama had sent him because of his future
collaboration with the rings free fight organization. Oyama wanted
Bluming back, offered him the president ship of the World
Kyokushinkaikan, and ensured him that he would be allocated the
training program for everyone who was willing to start all-round
fighting; many people were enthusiastic to do so. Bluming accepted
the offer on condition that Loek Hollander would be expelled from
the organization; that was no problem. Maeda is still alive and the
mentioned stories have not been made up. In April 1994, Bluming
received a message from Maeda that Mas Oyama suddenly had died.
Bluming was so sad that he travelled to Japan to bid farewell to his
former teacher in the Honbu. September 4 of 1994 was the most
emotional day in his life when he received a fax from Kenji Kurosaki
in Japan saying that he was awarded the grade of his deceased
teacher Mas Oyama and that he was allowed to have 10th Dan. Kenji
Kurosaki and four other prominent Honbu's had unanimously agreed
that Bluming deserved the honour. With that decision he was the
first in the KKK Honbu to receive the 6th Dan grade (in 1965) and
the 10th Dan grade (in 1994) as a foreigner from the recognized
Honbu’s in Japan. In addition, in 1998 he became 9th Dan in Judo,
and he is the only one in the world, Asia included, who received two
of such grades from Japan. The Kyokushin Budokai now has many Dojos’
around the world working together. Whenever possible, Bluming is
still travelling around the globe to explain his ideas about
fighting, matches, and self-defence. But it is a fact, and in his
case more importantly, that he is one of the most complete fighting
machines that are walking around on earth. He is also one of the few
Grandmasters who proved their ability not only through practicing
the martial arts but who also proved themselves ultimately in all
aspects of the competition, that is, the real fighting. In 1963 in a
manner of self-defence he put 5 pounces from The Hague in hospital
after they had attacked him. One of them was at death’s door from 10
o’clock in the morning ‘till 3 o’clock in the afternoon, and luckily
recovered. Bluming was cleared since he had not started it and had
finished it alone. Back in the dojo we got 80 new members in the old
Budokai the following days.
Kaicho Jon Bluming:
I founded the
Budokai as counterbalance against all those sad characters in those
times, who only wanted to make money and did not return anything in
exchange. Also the graduations by the newly founded Karate
association were a disgrace, when it became known who had suddenly
become 5th and 6th Dan. Especially when Bontje became 6th Dan, it
was an insult for real Karate. I decided to start working together
with people of good will and to give Budoka, who “had been standing
on the barricades” for years, finally the degree they were worth. So
all those Budoka who “had fallen between two stools” because of any
situation whatsoever…that promise I have been able to keep together
with my former teacher Kenji Kurosaki 10th Dan, who has been a
legend in Japan for 73 years. My advice is, when you start or do not
know how to proceed in any combat sport: look for a good teacher and
check and double-check whether the stories are right, and then
listen to him to make progress in whatever you are aiming for,
self-defence, taking part in competition, all-round or full-contact
or the soft style!!! You can receive or even buy a Dan grade from
anyone, but is that worth anything and do you dare showing it to
those people who know what the sport is all about without being
laughed at? I founded the Budokai as counterbalance against all
